Installing/running on Leopard (Mac OS)?

by Fredulus Ripplinger · in General Discussion · 12/06/2007 (8:25 pm) · 13 replies

Now, I couldn't see a specific section to post this in, it shouldn't go in Linux, so I just posted here. I was wondering if TGB can be installed and run on a Mac using Leopard. I know that many/some applications are having problems, and I wanted to check before I bought it.
Edit: Now that I think about it, I do have an Intel chip if that changes anything, I don't have the G4 or 5.

Right now there are problems with the installer and a couple of the internal calls since the new version changed the API significantly. They are being worked on, but are not resolved yet.

I can't use TGB since more than a month now, I'm a little tired of this situation.

And Mathieu: Constructor is out of order too for Leopard users.

Yea but if you upgraded it's not GG's fault. Development systems need to be reference
in terms of hardware and software configuration.

Never rush out and install an OS upgrade without waiting for test & evaluation reports to filter back
if you have critical apps.

Unfortunately, testing new OS is critical too when you have a commercial game in sell. That's our case with Penguins Arena: I have to make sure it run on Leaopard.

So, is it worth it to get TGB for Christmas, or should I wait?
Edit: Does TGE work on Leopard?

I haven't seen any issues brought up with TGE and Leopard, but I also haven't tried it. I haven't upgraded yet. I know there are issues with TGB and Constructor currently. I would not be surprised if the API changes that are plaguing a lot of software (not just GG's software) are rolled into TGE, too.

We're even having issues with how Leopard affects BitRock (the 3rd party installer generator application we use), so it's more than just TGB/TGE/TGE-A.

Will the TGB/TGE be ready by Christmas :P ?

There's been a lot of software that worked in previous versions of OSX that are not behaving correctly under Leopard. I usually never upgrade for a few months and only then after verifying that all of the features of the software I use will work. I've been burned when editing in Final Cut and upgrading...and then having to downgrade again because the API made sweeping changes and broke core functionality like reliable caching.

So far, excepted Constructor, all my Tiger stuff is working under Leopard... which was announced, well more than 1 year ago?

I downloaded TGB just to see if it worked for Leopard yet, and it does! I'm going to but TGE, but I want to know if it is working for Leopard also. Is it?
Edit: Nevermind, just bought it and it now works for Mac! Hurrah!

I currently have problems with the GUI Editor crashing in Leopard whilst running through the MazeRunner game provided on the "The Game Programmer's Guide to Torque" CD.

I only upgraded to Leopard a week ago, so further problems may come to light, but everything else seems fine so far, and I haven't had the GUI Editor crash in any other game sample, so it might just be something I'm doing wrong.

I was wondering it if was likely to be a cached dso file being inappropriate, but I really don't know enough about the engine to say for sure. I'm still a relative newbie.

Still, every day you learn something new is a good day.
