Question about scaling and animations ..

So im at a bit of a crysis right here .. i animated a model and then afterwards the level designers tell me that they need the model to be 1.8x bigger.. i thought i might try to see if i could scale things in object mode and then export.. no dice model comes out looking completely deformed like it got blown apart..
my question is if there is any workaround for this ? or if there is a way to have the exporter have an option to scale on export so that you can scale things for the game ?
i know the md5mesh exporter has this function is it possible to use different code from different exporters ?
