could rw be made to download terain files?

someone tell me, would it at least be possable to make rw download .ter files from servers, they are only around 300k, and most of the ut maps are way more than that

As long as the files are hosted somewhere, yeah. Downloading directly from the host is a bad idea for multiple reasons. Personally, when I play T2 and use its auto-downloader, I rarely bother since by the time it's done downloading over my connection, the map is already over.

Q3 had autodownload, but nobody used it because by the time you had the map, it was over.

What I think Torque needs is a very simple message system for downloads. Essentially, when a client connects, the server should send it a list of FTP servers where it can fetch any files it may be missing.
Of course, the problem with this is that these download sites will move, go down, whatever. Maybe that can be fixed by the server updating his list occasionally.

Most of this facility is already scripted into rw, thats why you get the popup saying what fil;es are missing, just open the script and point it at the download direct or to site containing the dl.

Perhaps it could also suggest you get the next map that is comming up, also?
