Extremely Silly Animation Export Problem (3dsmax + skin)

by Roald Hoyer-Hansen · in Artist Corner · 11/28/2007 (7:19 am) · 1 replies

I got some serious problems while trying to export a really simple animation today. I thought the process would take maximum one hour, knowing that Torque can make life difficult for artists, but after hours of tweaking and debugging, I haven't really figured out what to do.

The entire animation consists of a pipe structure being pulled a couple of meters and the model is rigged with 4 dummy-objects, acting as bones. The model is skinned with the Skin modifier and everything looks ok in 3dsmax. In Torque/Showtool however, it's not exactly WYSIWIG (What You See Is What You Get). I manage to play the animation and it looks good, but now I suddenly got a "frozen/non animated" copy of the object in the scene as well. I've tried everything, but haven't managed to get rid of this unwanted object.

Does anyone out there know what I've done wrong or forgot?

Here is the schematic view from 3dsmax:

This is how the animation should look:

And this is how it looks in showtool/torque:

I'm really struggling with this one, as I have no clue why i got a duplicate of the pipe structure. Am I really stupid or is the exporter just being plain retarded? If anyone wants to have a look at the scene, you can download it here www.rockandroald.net/tiein/flexpipeDTS.zip

Hope anyone out there can help me as soon as possible!

All the best!

*update*

i found out what was wrong! i got a duplicate of the pipe-model because the node-setup was wrong. the solution was really simple, just "detach" the flexpipeanimated model from the main hierarchy.

trial & lots of errors finally paid off! =D
