Crash after 3 hours and couldn't save

by Browser_ice · in Constructor · 11/11/2007 (4:08 pm) · 4 replies

I do not know why but I lost 3 hours of work because somehow, I couldn't save my work. I tried everything and the file options were all grayed out except for the export options.

Is there a specific situation needed to be able to save our work ???

Also for some unknown reason, it crashed 2 min after. I was moving a bunch of brushes and it moved them way to far. So I did an Undo and it crashed !

I am finding the undo to be buggy. Sometimes just doing an Undo doesn't do anything. I have go and click in the undo stack myself to tell it where I want to go back to.

I also found precision errors when I do a simple 90% turn, the brushes vertices were not aligned properly.

"Save early, save often". You should never wait 3 hours to save your work. Get in the habit of hitting ctrl-s every 10 minutes or so.

No truer words have ever been spoken lol. In fact, I wouldn't even wait every 10 minutes. That's not just for constructor, but any similar applications. I learned the hard way years ago.

You should be able to save you work without issue at any point. Is it grayed out after you restart the program? Did you try re-installing it?

File menu problem hasn't happened again.

now its crashing when I do the export and I do not know why.

Is there some kind of test possible to check before doing an export ?

I tried preview as game export but it doesn't reveal anything.

It could be any number of things... memory usage, the specific exporter verses whats in your level.. etc. Is there anything other than brushwork in your map? Which exporter are you using and for what engine? Have you tried to disable render while exporting to free up the process alittle? More info for us could maybe help.
