Which audio file formats support TGB?

by Pedro Melendez · in Technical Issues · 11/04/2007 (3:53 pm) · 12 replies

Hi folks,

I was looking for this issue in documents, tutorials and TDN. All tutorials use wav files but I'm wondering if there is an alternative for that, I tried to load mp3 files but my PC was frozen, so I hope that anyone has already succeded using another format than wav.

Thanks,

Pedro.

I know that tribes 2 used mp3's. I would assume that TGB would support it too. I'm not sure how you would go about using them though.

I've been using OGG files.

Ogg. You would have to license the MP3 codec to use it.

David, can you please explain? Should I not be using Ogg, then?

No. Sorry that I wasn't clear.

Ogg is supported.

To use MP3's, someone would have to license the codec.

Hi everybody,

Thanks for response, Ogg works fine and its compression ratio is really good, but just for the record. How many formats support TGB? Just these 2 ?.

I'll work with Ogg but just for update the documents of TDN

I think a rundown of the possible audio formats is good, too. When I first started playing around with the Audio, I did a search for 'Ogg' and nothing really came up. So I just decided to try it and found it worked.

I believe it is OGG and WAV.

MP3's would require integration of FMOD or similar system.

Is it possible to integrate FMOD?

Also, if that's not possible, how do I convert MODs and such into Ogg format? Any good programs to use on the Mac?

Thanks, Scott. That really helps. I guess I'll just convert everything to Vorbis, too bad I lose quality converting MP3s, but at least this is something to get started. Thanks again! :)

You shouldn't lose any quality converting an MP3 to Ogg. You can set the quality settings of the Vorbis file high enough so that you shouldn't be able to tell the difference.
