If you guys should come together and make a group like that, above, I would do anything graphical (and some script, perhaps) that I could to help.

I don't think I could donate a large amount of time, as I'm pretty busy with Trajectory, Dog of Prey, and another project just starting. I just don't want to promise and be unable to deliver. If you guys should come together and make a group like that, above, I would do anything graphical (and some script, perhaps) that I could to help.

Yea I was thinking more along the lines of organizing coders, both freelance and those working on dev teams, and work tegether to develope and release graphical enhancements for TGE, and get everything organized so that we can get more acomplished in a shorter amount of time. Contact me and we could discussin the possible organization of such a group.

As for where we could have a community, I was thinking about maybe the GG forums, but the problem with that is that it could get confusing with the volume of other posts that are made there. We should set up a meeting in IRC or something sometime and we could talk about it in more depth.

Well I'm not quite sure yet. My idea is that we get a group of coders together that are interested in the graphics aspect of the TGE. We should get a place to have a community, and then meet, and create a list of enhancements that we think should be made for the TGE and figure out who wants to do what. Then we could all post progress in our community area and make comments on the work. The group could also act as play testers for the others, so we could try all enhancements on a somewhat varied array of computers, and see if someone else can catch something that we missed. The group could also help coders out with smaller tasks if needed, with the goal of releasing a stable and efficient snippet. As for where we could have a community, I was thinking about maybe the GG forums, but the problem with that is that it could get confusing with the volume of other posts that are made there. I wonder if there will be much interest in helping, and if we could find a way to implement. Break it into modules, or something.
I also am curious how this would fit in with Garage Games' schedule as a whole.

I could probably do this. I wonder if there will be much interest in helping, and if we could find a way to implement. Break it into modules, or something.

Well I propose that we have a meeting with those interested and see if we can lay any sort of foundation down to organize such a pooling of resources. Any suggestions for times? We could meet in teh TA IRC room on gamesnet (#Tactical-Assault).

It fizzled out due to everyone who agreed to do large chunks of the project becoming involved in their own projects, or their jobs.
The forums are already in place, and some of the tasks are already suggested and elaborated on. Might want to start there instead of starting from square one.

I'd suggest a mailing list as a better resource. That way people just have to reply if they want (its sort of a passive experience rather than actively spending time keeping up to date on a billion forum threads).

As far as organizing a bigger project goes, I just don't think I can commit enough time at least until Trajectory is released. Some days I feel like there's not enough time to do what I already have, much less another project. :-) I do humbly apologize.
Eric
BTW, just what IS involved with shaders?

I'd suggest testing this out with just one feature such as shaders, since Melv has expressed some interest in it.As far as organizing a bigger project goes, I just don't think I can commit enough time at least until Trajectory is released. @Phil, I think that is true that these types of posts would get fizzeled out a bit in teh GG forums. We could set up our own forums. There are several options out there, IkonBoard if we want to setup a dedicated borad, or we could even make a new section in my vB forums if we wanted to use that. I'm just throwing some ideas out here.
