Also, VSync option is usually found in the display properties->Settings->Advanced; there you can also turn off AA, turn down the image quality, etc. Nevertheless, you *should* be able to run any game with an Athlon XP & GF4 Ti. Check your DirectX and OGL settings and make sure you have retail version drivers.

When did you update the drivers? I believe the most stable version is 28.xx, but NVidia released another version earlier this month, so make sure you have at least 28.xx.Also, VSync option is usually found in the display properties->Settings->Advanced; there you can also turn off AA, turn down the image quality, etc. Nevertheless, you *should* be able to run any game with an Athlon XP & GF4 Ti. Alex, did you use the new Detonator (40.41) drivers (www.nvidia.com)? Or some 3rd party ones? If so, always use the Detonators...

And run it. Because of the way WinXP runs, when you move into full screen mode, it defaults your monitor refresh rate to 60Hz, which seriously limits your fps. Rivatuner will fix that.
Under the main menu of Riva Tuner, click the triangle on the right under Driver settings.
1. DX Tweaks Tab - Click the Vsync tab and choose always off.
2. OGL Tweaks Tab - Same thing with Vsync.
3. Refresh Fix Tab - Make sure the button that has a gradient block of colors and a lock by it is activated, then click install. (You should have the real drivers for your monitor installed, not the default Plug and Play driver for it to work 100%. If you use the default P&P driver with XP, it may "think" that your monitor can handle a certain rate, but really can't or it may think it can only go so high, but it can really go higher).Restart the computer, load Rivatuner back up, click on the Refresh Fix Tab again, now click the >> button (sets each resolution to the max refresh rate) and click install again.
There are a lot of other tweaks in there that can adjust performance, but these are the best. Feel free to play around with the others though. I went from getting 20 fps with my GF3 Ti500 to getting 150 fps. Hope this helps, if not feel free to fire off an e-mail to me at strife@project-51.com

I had the same problems with my GF3 Ti500, like everyone said; get at least 28.xx drivers (www.guru3d.com) or the latest ones from nVidia (I use the latest from nVidia - 30.82). Then in your system BIOS, make sure that you're AGP settings is set to 4x, and that you turn on AGP Fast write. Then get this app:http://www.guru3d.com/rivatuner/

Yea teh GF cards work really well, especially after you tweak them using the above mentioned steps. I have built several computers for my friends using a GF4 card, and they all love them.

Having 4-pixel units is great but to have 8 .... can't wait for the ATI 9700 pro to be on general release. *looks over at Phil with his new sparkly 9700 and sighs*.
Even better, I can't wait until they become old cards for

I use a ti4600 and I can confirm that it takes some serious effort to bring it to it's knees.Having 4-pixel units is great but to have 8 .... can't wait for the ATI 9700 pro to be on general release. *looks over at Phil with his new sparkly 9700 and sighs*.

Could be related to your problems but i tried out the new 40.xx drivers yesterday and they crippled my frame rates (down from constant 80 - 90 on wolf to a very wobbly 30 - 50). I installed 30.82 and all was good again which is a shame as i love the new control panel layout in the 40 series drivers.

I use the new 40.xx drivers and they work fine for me. I even got a bit of an increase. When it comes to drivers, you really got to find the ones taht work best for your hardware, as they can be very picky. Some people get nice improvements, some people don't see much of a difference, and some get a loss in frames. I would try the new 40. drivers, see how they preform, but with drivers, especilaly with video cards, you really have to play around with them in order to get them to work right. And sometimes you have to tweak the settings before you see an increase.

In the same vein, i dont think there is a game yet, that could bring this card to its knees. i would suggest as others have, doing a thorough investigation as to the drivers you have installed for this card.

This might be too late, but if you can afford a GF4 Ti 4600, I'd just get a Radeon 9700. It's the newest out there and literally 100% faster than the Ti 4600 for the same price--plus it has full DirectX 9.0 support.

Yea the new Raedon card is very nice, on the same vein, you may even want to just wait until the next gen cards from both ATI and nVidia come out, but if you want to get a state of the art card now, I would spring for the Raedon.

We've got the NV30 rumoured to go into mass production in winter this year. So much for Moore's law!

On an unrelated subject, anyone who buys the Parhelia for more than $300 is out of their mind. ;)

Yep. I'm just saying that for now, there's no point in spending $400 on a lesser video card when you can something twice as fast and more advanced for the same price. On an unrelated subject, anyone who buys the Parhelia for more than $300 is out of their mind. ;)
