DIF to obj or 3ds

Howdy folks -

i have some DIFs which i'd like to eventually convert to DTS,
but along the way i'd like to do some work on them in say 3DS or Milkshape or what have you.

so i'd like to convert the DIFs to some common format.

i tried constructor's Export To Lightwave,
but milkshape wouldn't load the resulting .lwo.

i don't mind if texture info gets lost.

If you have the original .map files, I think Milkshape can load them with an importer (or maybe it was Ultimate Unwrap).

According to Dave in another post, there are two versions of the LWO format, and Milkshape probably uses one while Constructor uses the other.

I should see if Modo will do it.

Oh but right hemisphere's deep exploration does load the .lwo.
bad milkshape!

too bad deep exploration costs $500.

Thanks for replying, David.

- Actually,
i just noticed that milkshape has two lightwave import options,
and the second one worked.

good millkshape!

i don't see an import option for .map, tho.

@Orion: I'm just curious. You're still using MilkShape 3D. I use it because I'm cheap, or poor, or something, and it suits my needs and abilities so far. But I thought that the pros used Maya, 3DSMax, Lightwave, or TrueSpace. So how come you're staying with MS3D?

Heh.

i'm just a programmer here at doppelganger, i don't rate my own copy of Max, which is what the art crew here use for everything except DIFs.

MilkShape is great for my simple programmer-art needs.

Ping Matt Fairfax (mattf at gg) I think he had code to convert .DIF's to 3ds

Hope that helps!
