Torque Show Tool Pro kills my system

I'm having a very distressing problem:
I recently lost my HDD and everything on it, so I had to reinstall everything from scratch. Tonight, I downloaded and installed my Torque Show Tool Pro (Torque ShowTool Pro (TGE 1.5 Indie Bundle)) but when I run it, it doesn't appear. It slowly grabs virtual memory, first 10M, then 20M, then 30M, then 40M until it jams my system to a crawl, and then when I start to shut the whole system down, I get "ShowToolPro Error: Out of virtual memory."
This worked fine on my old system, the same version, so I am very confused..
System: XP Pro 2003 SP2
AMD Athlong Dual Core 64 x2 3800+
2.0GHz
Memory: 1G RAM
Graphics: ATI Radeon X1650 512M (and latest drivers)

It no longer crashes the system, but it does not start. TaskManager shows the virtual memory in use as being between 15M and 40M and it throws the same error.
