Vista Problem

A friend of mine has Vista installed on his computer and when he tries to play TGEA it pops up an error about not having DirectX 9 installed. I was told he could have both DirectX 9 and 10 installed on Vista but when he tries to install 9 it doesn't look like it installs anything and it still gives him the error. People have also told me DirectX isn't backward compatable so that might not even work. It starts to run, the screen goes black and then it goes back to the desktop with the error.

Has anyone else had this issue before and have any ideas how to fix it? I believe he has an Nvidia 8500 GT (not sure).

He has the latest Windows updates and the newest Nvidia video drivers. He has also tried compatablity mode and ran TGEA as aministrator and none of this works.

I'd like to get this working as he is going to create 3d models and animations for my game.

Run the DXWebInstaller.

Vista only has a single version of DX9.0c
Sadly there are over a dozen versions and the one used in TGEA most likely is not the Feb07 which is installed with vista.

(this is only needed if you didn't run the installer so far or installed a +- 2 month old game yet)

If this isn't the problem, then you are perhaps not on the most current drivers.
