TGE and TGB working together?

by Darin Malcom · in Torque Game Engine · 10/03/2007 (9:03 pm) · 3 replies

I purchased TGE a few years ago, and due to lack of time and a clear game plan I have only done a few of the tutorials. I recently have increased my free time, and have a particular game in mind. However the game is mostly a 2D card game with a small stationary window displaying two characters fighting in 3D. I downloaded the TGB demo, and realized that the 2D elements of the game could be accomplished very easily with TGB. I know anything is possible if I have the source code for TGE and TGB, but I was wondering if anyone has already undertaken the combining of the two to basically create a GUI for TGE in TGB or to drop a small TGE window into a TGB game. Or maybe I would be better off just using the TGE Gui editor. I would appreciate any suggestions or thoughts on the subject.

It used to be much easier than it currently is. You used to be able to drop it into your TGE project (or vice versa) and compile. Now there have been a significant number of changes to both engines that it is a rather sticky position. You can, however, use DTS models in TGB. They will not have any fancy lighting effects or such, but you can use them.

Thanks for the info. Of course it prompted a couple more questions. When using a DTS model in TGB can you still use DSQ animations, and mount points? Also any chance you know of a tutorial or resource where DTS models are used in TGB.

Sorry I answered my own questions with a quick search. If anyone else is looking to accomplish the same thing here is a link to a tutorial on DTS shapes in TGB.
