Hello,

We have announced a contest for any game developing teams out there.
The prize includes:
- $100 000 cash advance
- paid game engine licence up to $1 million (any game engine available)
- standard dev team royalties from shipped title

Estimated duration of the project until Nov 2008

Lee,

it is not to create a full game, it is to be a playable demo, (there are 4 milestones to be reached-not required though). The contest is over in nov 2008. And 100k is only part of the prize winning team will receive. That team will get to finish and implement the rest of the features and will be receiving standard dev royalties (which I'm pretty sure you know how much they aprox are) for as long as they support the project.
And just to be clear I will not benefit from it 1 way or another. I might be a member of Advisory Board, but I'm still a volunteer, and consider myself just a regular community member.

Seems interesting and I like the game idea but I'd rather spend time on my own game idea. There's probably more chance of my playable demo being released by myself online than winning a contest against other dev teams. And if I lose the contest I'm left with a demo of a game and can't go any further with it (not to mention the time spent on it). If I make my own game demo at least I can still work on it after the playable demo stage, and it won't seem like wasted time. Hope that makes sense.

I'm sure other people will feel different about this but for me it doesn't seem like a good investment in time. Good luck.

You might be right,
but within this project you get full support can get as much help from community as needed and at the end you will get publicity not matter if you win or not. And that might help you further down the road. Dp will not decide on the winner himself, he will pick 5 finalists and it will be up to the community to choose the winner. If you planning it out right it wouldn't be such a waste, and would not take as much time to modify the content. If you think you don't stand a chance to compete you can still join 1 of already assembled teams
