Edit Terrain from script

For some reason i think that its possible to edit in the terrain like smoothen it from script, like i need to add an interior during runtime in a non-specified position on the map (use defined) & I want players to be able to go in & out of the interior, so I need to make sure than the terrain can allow them to reach it, so I need to smoothen it before adding the interior. any help or hints ??
