how can i model following Scetch ????

How can i model stuff like this ???

my first thoughs are, the house it self could make as a dif, but the tent, the barrels, boxes etc. should be dts.

Ok no problem.
1. make the House with Quark
2. make the other stuff with Gmax or Milk

but, how will it look like ??? .dif are shadowed in the terrain and .dts are not shadowed).

So my question is why are the .dts meshes aren't shadowed (players and vehicles are shadowed)

No it's not Sven, i'm just very bussy.

I think you shoul do it just like you said you would. Hous quarck the rest max..

I wouldn't worry about that shadows for now, i'm sure that will be fixed somewhere along the way.

The way you surgetsted is probably the way to go.

I like to remind every one that i will be on vacation soon. Logan and Matt will take over quite some work so questions will get answered, while i'm a way.

aahh, thx for the answer :D

so maybe there will be later two .dts meshes ???
one shadowed (StaticMeshes) for decos
and
one nonshadowed (moveableMeshes), because it would look strange if you have a Lift moving upstairs and the shadow is still downstairs ;)

If you have Max you can use a free plugin called SimCloth to do the tents; Click Here to get it... I don't know if it will work with Gmax though...

Simcloth also works with spacewarps so you could have the fabric blowing in the wind if you wanted.

Here's an example I made using it, the tent is 420 polygons, the boxes are 401:

Munki have you had a chance to play with Reactor yet? Its pretty dammed cool and will do similar cloth effects with outstanding physics.

I haven't used it in production yet but I have played around with it at my old job. I'll have to wait till I get my Max 5 upgrade to get it here at home :-)

The first thing I did with Reactor was build a wall out of dodecahedrons and used the mouse to throw the Tribes II Shrike model at it... great fun. I used to do the same thing with lego and d-cell batteries when I was a kid :-)

You should be pretty impressed with R5 when you receive your upgrade its definately well worth the upgrade price considering all the great new features that it adds.

There are obviously a few bugs and issues that are getting sorted out right now. One of which has to do with the Skin modifier changes from R4 to R5 which can somtimes result in an odd vertex or two displacing itself (but Discreet is looking into this).

As for the DTS exporter it works fine from what I have tested of it thus far.

thx munki for the link, but this will only work for Max, all Max or Gmax plugins have a Versioncode and Gmax won't load Max plugins.
most of the Scripts work in Gmax, but plugins doesn't :(
