Christophe,

I just tried pinging the GG master server with my version of TGE and here's what I got . . .

www.aaronellis.net/gg/serversearch.jpg

So, the main master server seems to be working and showing active games. But then, when I tried the same thing with Penguins Arena, I didn't find any games being hosted and no confirmation or errors, just a blank games listing.

If I were to guess, I would say that it's an issue with your region codes or server masks. I had similar problems when I tried to see a prototype I was trying to build for a prospective client in Europe. That was the issue in that instance and it might be the case here as well.

Do a Winmerge comparison between your prefs.cs files and the ones in a clean TGE build. That might shed some light on the problem. If you don't have a working reference build handy, I can probably compare them for you.

I hope that helps,

BTW, PA is a great game, highly addictive.

Thank you Aaron. The master server is up now.

no problem, the server list blank because there is no player atm. In fact, we are going to start promotion and marketing tomorrow morning ! Then, I hope we will find some active servers :)

Please keep in mind that the GarageGames master server is not a commercial service. You should certainly be creating your own master server for a game you sell.

There are zero guarantees regarding the availability, up status, connectivity, or other important statistics regarding the GG Master Server--it's only there for people to test development work against.

Stephen,
I will prepare and send you a mail tomorrow concerning the master server.

So what about current games that use the master server, like think tanks?

Think Tanks is a GarageGame game. I'm simply managing an expectation that the GG MasterServer is a service that external companies should reply upon (which is a false expectation) for commercial use.

Ahh ok thanks for the clarification.

But that raises the question for us TT'rs and budding game makers. If sold by GG is there a time period that it gets to use the master server? (Is there an end date). Or does it stay up as long as someone still plays?

ThinkTanks isn't just sold by GarageGames, it was made by GarageGames (to be more specific: BraveTree, who is now wholly owned and working for GarageGames).

We will naturally keep an eye on our own games but we do not directly provide a master server service for just any game sold on our website.

MGT runs a master server for all of our products. If you want you can talk to Ed (edgardner at maxgaming.net) or Adrian (awright at maxgaming.net) about setting up a deal with regards to using our master server for your products (if you are looking for one).

So can I take from this that Think Tanks will be around for a long time? I personally post threads in many game forums to promote the sales of Think Tanks. We are a tight die hard group of players and dedicated to the continuation of this game. I continue to see some new players and think Think Tanks 2 would imo generate a quick chunk of change if ever produced. Thanks for the best online game I've ever played.
