Blender free?

by Kevin Mitchell · in General Discussion · 09/07/2007 (8:57 am) · 13 replies

I'm sorry for all the questions but I'm wondering if Blender if free to download and use... are the models you make, and the movies you render using it free to distribute royalty free?

I went there and got lost in the technical jargon... I feel like i needed a lawyer to understand what they are trying to say.

You'll feel the same way the first few times you try to use it. 8-)

At least the tutorials are easy to read.

Blender is not only free, it's pretty dang awesome to use.

Folks who are used to other 3D modeling packages have had a few gripes about the interface / workflow, though I've gotten used to it well enough (for what tiny percentage of its features I actually use). But it's free, its VERY powerful.

Phoenix, thanks for the link. I'm a coder, but now that I recently got TGE, I'm looking to at least get a better understanding of 3D and figured Blender would be a potential application to use.

Heh, thanks Aaron...

I was gonna forum search the link code thing and just saw the "(Want to use bold, italics and add links to your text? Click here to learn how)" and I've seen it a hundred times before but never clicked it :p :)
One of those cant see it cause it's in front of your nose things I guess.

@Steven

Yeah, I'm just starting out teaching myself C++, Python, and Blender and picked up the link along the way. In fact, I seem to excel at picking up bookmarks...over 100 in the last 2 months. I think I'm gonna put a stop to it until I get the old bookmarks under control. (Well over a meg in size now.)

Every time I use a 3D application I try to relate it to the Student version of 3Ds max I've been using for 7 years, Blender Isn't that bad its so easy to model with my only thought is how to poly-check list my game. But I'm re editing the character I first made and hes looking so much better in blender. Still trying to figure out minor things like rigging and torque character export that i haven't got to yet but I'll see about that when i finish reediting my character.
