Jack Thompson and Violent Videogames

If anyone has been following the game Bioshock, made by Irrational/2K Games, Jack Thompson is planning on attacking it for the way its set up and how violent the game is, but one thing bothers me about all the games people like him attack. They are rated M = 17+ audience. So, who is really to blame, the developers of games like GTA (Grand Theft Auto), BioShock or the Manhunt Series? Or is it the parents who dont read that its rated M, and dont read anything about the game and just buy it cause little Johnnie wants a new game to play?

Yeah, I was looking at Gamesradar.com, and when I went to BioShocks community site, someone had posted the same thing, and now I think its even more hilarious that he got mad that it was during a wrestling show, that which you stated, has people beating eachother to a pulp, despite how fake it is it is graphic.

Ignore Jack Thompson - there are much better Thompsons in politics and the media ;).

No kidding. Its good marketing to run an add for a mature game durring a mature show, hitting your market which alot of people who play these types of games also watch this show. These people like Jack just need to let it go and stop trying to make money off of this nonsense. Now here is a question for you all. Would parents be more likely to realize what the rating system would be if it used the same letters as the movie industry? M = R?

I actually think that is a good idea, the rating system might be more effective if it was more uniform (though probably not by much). I still do think in the long run though, wether its rated M or R, parents will just want the kid to stop complaining and buy the game to shut them up.

Although not entirely good publicity, but there's still the couple of people who wouldn't have heard of it without him bringing it up as an issue...

You know, he actually gives the games more publicity with all the conflicts and stuff...Although not entirely good publicity, but there's still the couple of people who wouldn't have heard of it without him bringing it up as an issue...
