Hi all,

I've done a couple of GIDs as part of my evaluation of TGB. Whether or not I purchase TGB, the GIDs might be of value to the community.

What's the score regarding releasing them? All code and art are original, and I'm happy to give source. Would appreciate the official line.

Best,
Iain

Just post the links.. I'd love to see some actual code - far too little out there for newbies in my opinion - especially when evaluating the program like we are trying to do. thx for sharing!

TDN would be an outstanding place to post this type of work, or you could also submit them as a resource for the forums.

The advantage of TDN is that it will let others help to maintain in the future if they desire, and/or build on to your prototypes.

Stephen, awesome, thanks for confirming - just didn't want to step on any toes if I'm not supposed to "release" anything during trial.

I'll post it as a resource initially as I don't have access to the relevant TDN area at the moment. I'm sure I'll buy TGB soon enough though, I'm running out of trial :D

Good point on not having TDN access during trial--that slipped my mind :(

Glad to hear you are interested in providing access!

Stephen, I've enjoyed the trial very much. You guys continue to do great work.

Highlights:

- My GIDs ran everywhere I tried them, first go! The same consistency I get with TGE. That was great news.
- Love the particle editor!

Lowlights:

- The documentation feels like 50% of it is from the previous generation of TGB; not fully embracing behaviours in the tutorials, etc. I expect this will change as the platform and documentation continue to solidify.
- Maybe just me but the highlighting of every instance of "up" in the documentation really got on my nerves!
- Linking from the front page of the documentation to the TGPGT purchase page and labelling it "TGB Book" could disappoint people..

I also feel that TDN access during the trial could swing maybes into purchases. Perhaps the demo could be a download that gets stored under My Account in a similar fashion to Constructor, allowing the wiki to authenticate those with demo access?

Oops - now updated with download link - hopefully it'll get approved now.

Hmm - am I doing something wrong? Do I have to ask a mod to approve it?

They just take some time for the appropriate folks to get through the queue. In the meantime, you can post a direct link to your unapproved resource in the forums if you want quicker feedback.

Just approved it :)

As Stephen said you typically just need to wait for it to get approved. I try to stagger resource approval (relational to the resources in queue), that way each resource gets some time in the front page recent resource listing.

Very good point and thanks for stating it. Unfortunately we didn't have enough time to do a full documentation overhall before the behaviors release, I did want to though :) We do understand the value of good, up to date, and developed documentation and in our future endeavors hopefully this will be more apparent :) I am proud of the TGB documentation, though considering most of it was created about a year ago I would definitely say it's more than time to re-create it for the current version and set an even higher target for quality and completeness.

Another very good point... our documentation framework has been expanded to include various levels of pruning and prevention for certain features like the glossary hotlinking.

Thank you for sharing this. Definitely something I agree with you on but we often don't get much feedback in that regard, noted and appreciated.

Great feedback, glad you enjoy TGB, and I'm happy to say that the three concerns you posted have been previously considered and are recognized as important. Any further feedback would be great (we always love feedback, even if it just reinforces what we've identified).

The TDN issue is a bit complex, though it's been noted and maybe we can consider some options... especially based on your comments.

Hi Matthew,

Many thanks for responding so clearly to my points. I look forward to using TGB as it progresses further.

For reference anyone looking for the resource can find it here.
