Hello,
I was looking at the trial awhile ago and im not sure if i should purchase or not.
Im not really a programmer so i was wondering if this would cause me problems?
Are casual games that can be made with TGB that profitable? do they sell very well?

I have been interested in game development for around 10 years, it has always remained a hobby. I am now looking to develop my skills and maybe progress it from a hobby into a 2nd income.

The first step is always learning... don't worry about trying to make money until you can figure out how to code a Hello World.. good luck - the documentation is a bit lacking which makes learning TGB a bit more difficult than it needs to be... but with some determination - you should be fine.

So, for developing 2D games I would definately recommend TGB. Is it perfect? No, but it's better than the other options (in my opinion).

Almost every game development kit/tool etc I've ever looked at is lacking in the documentation/tool area. I've always had a serious problem with GG in this respect (although there are a few books now), *except* for TGB and TorqueX. I think the documentation is quite good - not fantastic, but good. There's really no substitute for playing with it and experimenting, and it's a very good exercise to complete something simple. So, for developing 2D games I would definately recommend TGB. Is it perfect? No, but it's better than the other options (in my opinion).

Also, I really like companies that give full access to all forums, regardless of whether you purchased the product or not... hint hint..

True.. it is better than many of the 2D (stress 2D) options.. but there is so much good documentation and books on Game development with C++ and Direct 3D, etc.. this is where GG should really step things up. I have no idea why they just don't hire 2 or 3 full time documentation people to just crank out better tutorials, and some books, files. Sure, having access to all the functions is nice - but for beginners looking for a way to learn, GG seriously lacks in this area. Also, I really like companies that give full access to all forums, regardless of whether you purchased the product or not... hint hint..

The other is an impossible question to answer. Games are only as profitable as their popularity. You could make the best game on the planet, and if you can't get it into people's hands, no one will ever know. Some might. Some might not sell well.
