This offer is for those who enjoy the experimentation process.
I've got the mechanics of a genetics system worked out for a creature ranching type game and now I want to start putting the system into torque, preferably TGB (previously T2D) and see how it works.
I'll just go ahead and post the goals of this initial experiment so you can see if you feel you could contribute in any way:
- Take two simple 3D objects with just a few variables that define their appearance. For example, x-scale, y-scale, and RGB color
- "Mate" these two objects and create an offspring of the two objects through an automated process that will combine the traits of the two parents to create a unique individual
And that's it! If that can be done, then it can be stepped up a few notches in complexity, and lend a big part to really fun game.
By the way I am not totally useless. I'm a professional artist (meaning I make my living and support my family doing artwork), capable as a 3D modeler, and I can think like a programmer.
If we - that is, me and any super intelligent forward thinking (and no doubt good looking) visionaries types that choose to join me - are able to get the very basic elements of this system working then we'd already have the most important (and largest) part of the game already finished.
The rest would be just a handful of stationary art objects, a bunch of menu options to do the micro-management of the farm, and some brief story dialog. Done game.
If you are interested/intrigued/have any suggestions and would like to know more, please feel free to reply to this post.
