Anyone know of a good server to host an MMO?

I'm in need of a server (one good for an MMORPG) and I was wondering... What a good server is. I am thinking of getting a Xserve from www.apple.com/server/ because I'm a Mac guy... Is this a good server to use? Or is there a better server I can use?

EDIT: I'm guessing not many people use this forum. Lol.

The Xserve is a great server, and has lots of nice features that make it easier to deploy and operate.

You can usually get the same horsepower for less money elsewhere, and run Linux on it.

It's really a question of what your requirements are. You need to consider questions like what OS does your MMO server code run on? Is the scalability of your code primarily limited by bandwidth, CPU, or memory?

Assuming you are planning on building a successful MMO, you will be buying a lot of these servers, so reliability, availability, service, power consumption, etc... are all factors to consider.

All that said, keep in mind that in most cases, development cost is greater than hardware cost, so it may make sense to spend a little more on hardware if it keeps you from having to dedicate a lot of additional man hours to development and maintenance.
