Reference3D Machinery Pack Q&A
by Reference3D · in General Discussion · 07/30/2007 (7:39 am) · 18 replies
This thread is to better help those with questions or comments regarding our machinery content pack. We will be monitoring this thread regularly and try to post quick and helpful feedback.
First, Reference3D is very excited to have released our first content pack and hope those of you who have downloaded it find it to be a great set of assets for your project(s). We have received a few e-mails with great suggestions. This has led us to a few new updates or improvements to the pack.
First, being that this is Reference3D's first pack, we focused more of our effort on the modeling then the Torque engine integration. This lead to the lack of collision meshes. We have updated each shape with its own unique collision mesh. This means that some objects can now be walked on or in some cases under.
Second, those of you who have purchased the pack or read the description know that some of the machines consist of numerous models and textures. One developer was having problems importing the .dts files with multiple shapes and textures so we have split the shapes out into individual .dts files. Now each .dts file has only one shape and one texture. This should help those that do not have a 3D package capable of breaking up the objects.
All additional packs we create will follow suit. If you have additional suggestions, questions, or comments, please feel free to ask them hear. We would like to use this thread as a help thread for other developers/artists.
Thanks again - Reference3D Team

We have summited the link to the updated content. It may take a bit of time for GG to upload the updated content. Sorry for the hassle. Still a few bugs to work out.

How did you get the Foilage files to stay off the .dts/.difs?

EDIT: I got it to work with WinZip, but it is strange that it won't work with the other programs.

Hi there. I have just purchased and downloaded your pack, but I can't extract them. I have tried WinRAR and 7Zip. Both programs report an unknown compression method. Any ideas?EDIT: I got it to work with WinZip, but it is strange that it won't work with the other programs.

@Xmadole, strategic placing, although I dont have a problem with DIFs, but DTS objects I do, just call it a feature. :)

@Daz. I had the same problem. Winzip worked for me. I think they were zipped up on a MAC ?@Xmadole, strategic placing, although I dont have a problem with DIFs, but DTS objects I do, just call it a feature. :)

Glad to hear you got it to work - The dir's were all compressed and zipped using winzip on a pc. Due to the large file size of the texture .psd files the compression is very high. My guess is that winzip uses a compression method that only it likes. Just a guess tho. We will look in to it. FYI, New zips with collision meshes will be available soon.

Hey Jules - Liken the screen grab. Were did the containers come from? Did you guys model them?

@Reference3D - Containers are from the URBAN pack on GG :) Although we do have our own photo reference ones, including several other props. We are pretty good at buildings, structures, and level design. We're working towards character creation with a few monster packs soon.

I'm trying to buy the Yak Pack addon. It says it works on Torque regular and Torque Advanced, but I can't complete the purchase unless I have a Torque regular license on my purchase history. I have a Torque Advanced Commercial license. I've left a message for your sales folks. Can someone please verify that it works on Torque Advanced and if so, how do I complete this purchase online?

The notes say that it requires TGE - Indie, but the notes say that it has been tested in TGEA 1.0 and 1.0.1. I do not know about compatibility with the current build (1.0.3). I don't have the pack so I haven't actively tested it. It's on my list of "cool stuff to buy" though.

This topic is about a specific content pack, not the Yack Pack. It would be best if you started a topic dedicated to this issue. I've sent the information as well to the appropriate folks. The notes say that it requires TGE - Indie, but the notes say that it has been tested in TGEA 1.0 and 1.0.1.
