Wwii Mmorpg

Hey, there are already enough WWII FPSs and RTSs, so why not a MMO? My friends and I were tossing ideas around and came up with this. How about a WWII MMORPG with a skill/training system that allows the players to train in different aspects of wartime activity (i.e. training for fighter jets, automatic rifles, sniper rifles, submarines, or as engineers or medics) that determine their ability as opposed to skill-boosting items (like "Green Shirt, +1 Dexterity"), and a real-time advancing storyline that follows the battles and historic events of WWII, but allow the players to create the battles themselves by participating in them. How about it?

How 'bout none in general. Games are about creativity and gameplay. Theres no creativity in WWII ;)

WWII Online is definitely still going after over 6 years. You have to gain rank to use the more advanced equipment. There are ground, air, and naval units. The graphics aren't the best, but it's the only virtual battlefield out there. Other war based games have tiny maps, but in WWIIOL, you can fly from Germany to England and back.
About the "no creativity in WWII" quote, maybe you find no creativity in WWII, but I think quotes like that prove that you have no creativity.

Any idea for a mmo game thats not based on myth and fantasy is a good start imo.

Even though ww2 games and mmo games are flooding the market, perhaps mixing the genres would create something fresh.

No, no and no. Theres way too many WWII games out there, and only a fraction turn out to be good. If you can somehow merge genres like say, and alien abduction during WWII (Now thats an idea) it might just turn out to be a good game.

I'm a WW2OL (now called Battleground Europe) subscriber myself. You need a killer machine to run it, though, because of the large viewing distances, the current engine (some inefficient code and rendering and also occlusion issues - namely how they choose to do occlusion), and realistic physics (such as shell trajectories and what they do to the target). Dev process is on the slightly sluggish side, but they also have a small team -- but they've accomplished a lot over the last 6 years, even surviving bankruptcy. The map is half scale Europe, encompassing parts of England, France, Germany, Belgium, etc (and eventually all the world's combat zones, North Africa being the next planned theatre.). They're working on a new engine, and new terrain also -- currently it's 400m resolution terrain, but they'll be moving down to 90 meter satellite terrain res. The viewing distances on the ocean I think are around 8 kilometers...4 on land I think. There's really nothing else like it out there. I'd be playing it right now if I had a decent machine.

I've been playing WWIIOL for four years. I've bought, played, and eventually become bored with many WWII games. But WWIIOL is the one I keep coming back to. It has its issues - but all in all is a great game with incredible playability and depth, if you hook up with the right crew.

I'm actually working on one that originally was using RealmCrafter, but I have been looking into switching it over for TGE. I am not a programmer though so that might become a problem ;)

Here is the forum on it.

Hehe. I read that as an invasion of the Normandy forums and not forums for the Invasion of Normandy.

I liked a realistic game or "simulation". Not men running like cheetah, or that i can see the bullets like superman, or i can resist 3 7.62mm in my chest.

Gameplay?, the simulation of real live and things, like the SIMS (maybe...)

If you want a game like this, contact me, i am interested in develop de next MMOG WWII hit!.

Heya, I have been developing Bunker alone for a bit now. I have a bunch of art assets and some story and gameplay written up by a friend who's a good writer/designer.

I have Bunker and another project I am doing called "Arena" right now, so I am pretty busy in my free time. Here are the Arena forums, (registration required) http://arenaofdeath.proboards102.com/index.cgi (Arena will be similar to the pit fighter scene in the movie "conan the barbarian")

For both I am unsure whether I should use TGE or RealmCrafter. RC right now is very easy for me to pop in art assets for a proof of concept playable. But, I do know TGE is better graphically, but I am no programmer ;)
