Problem With Blender

I try to install blender 2.44 on this computer it runs windows xp and when ever i try to start up it just says and error and closes i tried downloading that stuff it need you to but it still does not work could anyone help me out

On start up off blender 2.44 i get an error message almost instantly saying

This application has failed to start because MSVCR71.dlll was not found Re-installing the applicaton my fix this problem

that happens every time on start up i have re installed blender many times i am running blender on windows is there something i need to download?
