Pirate ships and cannons

by Matt Lavoice · in Torque Game Engine · 07/24/2007 (4:18 am) · 8 replies

I've had torque for about 3 maybe 4 years and never really did anything with it, I have a few ideas but want to know how possible it would be to have pirate ships inside torque as the player instead of player models and also could I mount 4-8 guns on each side of the ship?
How are the physics as far as a boat floating on water?

Take a look at this recent blog: Coming together(wotss)

There's a download link with a demo game that features all that you're enquiring about.

You can also take a look at Buccaneer by Stickman Studios, the screenshots are from TGEA but it's essentially the same physics and player models as TGE just with better graphics layer.

Buccaneer: they finally switched to TGEA?

I was under the impression it was TGE with custom water enhancements.

Edit: You should also take a look at the Watercraft resource.

Yes, it was tge + water upgrade, they also planned to use MK from Alex.
I was surprised they had chosen TGEA, as the game was planned to be cross platform (Windows, Os X).

Perhaps the game still will be cross-platform after all it would only be a case of writing the openGl functions for the GFX layer, or perhaps they're focusing on getting a windows version released and afterwards see if GG has made available opengl for tgea.

To kind of bring this back up. as far as i have found, there are still no good resources for boats, where they bob up and down in the water and float correctly. the watercraft resource, last i checked was a good start but was never finished because the boats/vehicles would become airborne sometimes. is there any newer resources or has anyone done anything to make where the boat will actually go along with the waves? i know, again, from the past people were talking about editting the engine to go along with the waves on client side or something.
