Render problems
by Jay Arrera · in Torque Game Engine · 07/21/2007 (3:52 pm) · 5 replies
Running the demo or any compiled games, I see really bad run-time rendering artificats. I tried contacting Tech Support, but after a week, I still have not received any response.
Below are a couple of screenshots:

System Information:
OS: Windows
CPU: Dual Core 2 Ghz
Memory: 2 GB
Video Card: ATI Mobility Radeon X1400
Sound Card: SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC
Hard Disk: 2 GB free
Connection: Broadband
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jay

I had the most recent video driver, so I:
- Uninstalled files that came with 3DGPAi1 and the 1.5.2 Indie license.
- Did a clean install of the 1.5.2 engine.
- Switched from OpenGL to D3D display drivers.
Switching to D3D drivers seems to have solved it. I still get the artificacts with OpenGL, but at least now I have something functional. OpenGL may not be compatible with Vista/my video driver.
Thanks for your help,
Jay

It's that ATI have very poor OpenGL support, they always have. I stick to NVIDIA based cards solely for that reason.

I update my video driver every time they release a new driver for Vista but they didn't fix it yet :( But the strange thing is I have a good amount of game running under Open gl on my computer and I don't have this kind of problem :/
It seems the torque game engine do something that Open gl don't like.
I have an ATI Radeon X1900.

So one nasty problem, is that TGB doesn't seem to have D3D support for their 3d stuff.. so it's kinda opengl or nothing huh? If they allowed you to use d3d at least the rest of us could get something working while the drivers are getting fixed. Sort of makes it a dead platform for some of us. Mr Garagegames, are you aware of the problem stemming from vistas crappy opengl support, and your non-existant d3d support for GameBuilder? Please help!!! It's been 5 months now!!! AAAH

Oh man, at least I'm not the only one. I seemed like no one mentioned this crappy issue. ATI can lik my ballz, I will never buy another card from them for this reason. Punting it off to my retarded laptop vendor isn't a solution ppl.. anyways thanks for letting me vent.So one nasty problem, is that TGB doesn't seem to have D3D support for their 3d stuff.. so it's kinda opengl or nothing huh?
