Rigging video tutorials?

by Andrew Hull · in Artist Corner · 07/20/2007 (9:07 pm) · 6 replies

Does anyone know if there are any video tutorials on rigging in Blender anywhere? I have been trying to rig my character for a week now, and can't for the life of me get it working.

And yes, i did buy Introducing Character Animation With Blender. Great book, but still not helping me much.

Thanks.

You have detailed instructions in this book, can yo tell us some more details about your problems? You don't need most of the features showed in the rigging chapters for game models, but the basics are still the same. Ask more concrete things and maybe we can help you better.

Well, my two main problems are with IK solvers, and with actually getting my mesh to move with the bones. The character I'm trying to animate is not one single mesh, it's made of many parts. Does that make a difference?

You should not have any problem using more than a mesh with the same Armature: just parent all the meshes to the Armature, and then use the normal process of asigning points to groups with the same name than the bones you are using, and do it for each mesh.

What do you need to know about IK solvers?

I've finally figured it out. At least, I think i have. I parented the mesh (each part, anyway) to the armature, then had it automatically create the vertex groups to the nearest bone. Problem solved.

Is that actually correct? Do you have to parent the mesh to the armature?

I just figured out IK Solvers too. The wording in the book isn't too clear. I was adding the constraint to the wrong bone. I (think) that i have it now.
