I have a illness

Its called "games designing block syndrome".:)

I got torque, I got Milkshape, 3DWS, and Constructor. I made some pretty decent models and interiors, I just cant get my mind going. Everytime I get started on a project, I just cant get it truely "rolling". The storyline isnt coming to me at all. I can script a little bit.
Its going to be my first game made with torque. I trying not to start too big.

Its truely ignoring. I had torque for almost a year now.

Has anybody anyone gone this? Just not having a idea on what you want to make? Not having a idea?

What pulled you out of the slump?

Heh, I'm almost the opposite. I've had to postpone buying the engine because I've been working on my design document. I'm pushing 30 pages and not even a 10th of the way done yet. Maybe you should put the mouse down and start to read a good book. Doodle some ideas out on paper. Go to the mall and browse the games on the shelf.

July 2004 -> June 2006. I dreamed of making a killer game, better than halo, doing just about nothing, not knowing how to script, being a really bad 3D modeler, etc...

February 2007 -> I finally figured out Torque and will start a scripted AI kit as soon as I buy a laptop for it. Wish me luck.

I bought TGE a year or two before even starting to use it. Evaluated the engine not simply for it's great price for Indies but over the years I have watched GG develop the Engine and believe that it is now ripe at a version where you can make something great on a limited budget, what with integrated TLK. After about 15 months of development. I will probably not upgrade to the next version after 1.5.2 on the current game which is almost out there, unless there is a major bug fix before going into production.

After having completed my game about a month or so ago, I am still tinkering with new additions, such as the great AFX core pack which I'm using for the Sci-Fi elements of my game (It's not an MMORPG) but an FPS - and always thinking of new things that could be added to make it even better, but I will have to draw the line at some point this month or next and get the game out there. I'm looking forward to the next major release of TGE/A, hopefully ready for my next game.

Edit: To get yourself out of a slump, get some inspiration - play a few games and then think to yourself - I'd love to create my own game, and go to it. If the big commercial developers can do it, so can I :) Write down the qualities you would like to implement into your game. Add a basic story line and story board and then go from there adding to it as you develop.

Hahaha, that happens to everyone. I did it too. We all get into slumps. What I usually do is to watch a good movie that has elements I'd like to put into a game, then write it down. I play a few demo games, read gamers websites and write down what I like about the game. Then, I'll sit down and start putting it together.
I've put together a couple of demos (modified starter.fps) to give myself insperation and learning at the same time.

What joshua said about putting down the mouse a read a good book i think is agood idea because that will usually get your imagination flowing or if ur to lazy to do that (dont mean that in a bad way cause i am to) i like to go get a few movies like sci fi movies or action packed and futuristic movies causre they usually have great ideas in those movies and those usually get my imagination going and i read game informer magazine.

Maybe you are just trying to rush in, and want to do every type of game there is going, making yourself confused, frustrated and eventually driving you mad.. Set yourself some goals and one type/style of game, see how it pans out. If it works, great... move onto the next type of game.

I have a simple cure for this problem. Modding. Since I am copying the worlds and gameplay from my wc3 mods I just go back and start working on them bits and pieces to build up new ideas for my game. I end up copying the same thing in the end, way to easy (I am a programming noob).

Other than that, I watch few good movies every now and then, play a good game (racer to RPG.. but nothing MMO something since I have MMO's). Movies give ideas for cinematics only while from games you can learn and recreate what you have seen, maybe even improving on that feature for your game.

Make hide-and-seek. Write code to place an object randomly in the game world you're designing and then go look for it. give yourself a "gun" to shoot as a trigger that it's been found. Add simple AI that tell you "cold" or "hot" or "hotter" as clues to find it.

Start with a really simple premise, and add to it. If shooting it is the fun part, then add more FPS type features. If the AI is the fun part, maybe you'll want to add more RPG type elements. Get something on the screen and add little bits to see how your game grows. You'll have something to show off in six months and you've been gaining experience all the while.
