Help exporting a skinned shape from max4 to.dts (Skin modifier)

When I export a simple shape which containes bones (with a Skin modifier applied on top)
using the plugin max2dts exporter
I get the message "skin found on linked node "box2"---skin must be unlinked"
but if I do unlink the shape "box02" from e.g "Start01" from the schematic view in Max , I won't be able to export it.
Could somebody help please?

with 2 bones inside it.These are the steps i have followed.
1-Made a Cylinder (it is the only shape in the scene, no parents)
2-The shape is inside the "bounds" box.
3-drag the bones, and finish them.
4-apply the Skin Mod. to the Cylinder shape picking the bones with "Add bones"
5-now I animate the bones( the mesh deforms OK)
6-add a sequence helper, then in Track View I add the keys in the"Sequence Begin/End" line
in DTS export if I click on "Whole shape" a message from plugin "max2dtsExporter" saying "NO DATA TO EXPORT"
if I click on Embed shape before exporting then I obtain the
message "skin found on linked node Cylinder01--skin must be unlinked"
BUT IT WAS'NT LINKED TO ANYTHING BEFORE I DO THAT.
so what Am I doing wrong?

This was done to ease the creation of static shapes. Meshes with the skin modifier on them must be unlinked before exporting.
Make sure the mesh has a trailing number and a matching detail marker.

The embed shape button prepares the shape for exporting by linking it in the correct position in the heirarchy.This was done to ease the creation of static shapes. Meshes with the skin modifier on them must be unlinked before exporting.
