New Idea

Hi there, let me start by introducing myself. My name is Rhonda, but online I'm known as Midnyte. I have a very extensive gaming background, most notably I was a GM on a T4C server, and run my own AD&D chat community online. My web expirience is more varied and I don't have time to list it all here :)

I've grown tired of seeing the same games with differant names, and I have a detailed idea I would like to see come into being as a completely online accessable, multi-player roleplaying/action game. Yes, I know that has been done before, and to death even...but this storyline is unlike any you have ever seen before, trust me.

The problem is, while I do have a variety of talents, programming is not one of them. I need some information, advice if you will.

Will the game engine at Garage Games enable someone like me who can do graphics, HTML, design, and the like, but couldn't write her own program in C++ to save her life and failed Programming in Java twice, to be able to create a gaming environment worthy of the name? If so, point me to the order form :) If not, how do I go about finding people with the right skills (and the ability to keep a secret because I do not want this storyline leaking out and being used by someone else before I get a chance to try it first :) ) to help me? What kind of start up costs am I looking at...and most importantly, did I post this in the right forum? :)

If you cant program, torque is useless to you. However, if you can FIND someone to program for you, torque is the perfect engine for anyone who doesnt have thousands of dollars to throw around.

Oh, and no one is going to steal your storyline. Think of how many amazing novels and movies are out there, and not one person here is stealing a plot. Trust me, it isnt going to happen.

Plus, if anyone did it, the community would hate them, and that is a very bad thing here. This place can be brutal if you get on its bad side. But dont worry, we're normally good people :)

So Torque is useless to me. That is -not- good news, it means now I need to find someone to program for me. What languages do they have to be proficient in to be able to use it? Perhaps some of the programmers I have worked with on my web-based applications will be able to handle it.

Its all in C++, so if they dont know that, well, they will have to learn it. :)

Torque isnt useless, its still the engine I think you want to use to make your game. But you need someone to code, yes.

I meant useless for my own personal use. It seems to be the superior engine to bring my project to life, just means I need to hire someone to do it for me.

Thanks again for the info and the update...maybe I should just break down and give this programming thing another shot...C++ can't be -that- hard can it? *winks*

If the game isn't commercial, you could use something more primitive such as... a Half-life or Quake III engine. Or, if you knew someone who knows UnrealScript, you could use the mean Unreal engine.

Is there an engine that will take in animated 3ds max models and just let them do their thing when triggered? In other words the monster character starts his chasing you down the hall animation when you enter.
