Yes, TGEA has a direct pipeline with L3DT. You can also make heightmaps in both and import them into Torque.

I'm impressed with Earth Sculptor and use that now for many things. It's a neat tool. The only beef I have is that the author doesn't seem to support it anymore. The last release was back in November or so.

For repeating landscapes, I sometimes use Painter Classic (old and not free) or PhotoSeam (it has a 30-day trial). Even though these are *not* terrain programs, they do support painting on wraparound canvases, which is excellent for making tiled landscapes. The 2d painting->Torque "pipeline" takes a little getting used to, but it works pretty well for me.

Sometimes I use Bryce 5.x to sculpt my non-tiled terrain heightmaps and then save them to a bitmap file to import into Torque's terrain editor. It works pretty well, but usually requires some post-work to get everything the way I want it. EarthSculptor is still alive and kicking. The author released an update a few weeks back. Haven't tried it though, so I really can't comment on the programs usefullness.
