Cinema 4D version 5 FULL VERSION for FREE
by Stede Troisi · in General Discussion · 07/29/2002 (6:55 am) · 23 replies
The full version of Cinema 4D version 5 was available in a great magazine called PC PLUS. As the new version is almost $1200+ this is a fairly good deal.
Does anyone know if Cinema 4D would be great for making games? I hear a lot about Maya, Milkshape, 3DS Max but nothing about Cinema 4D. Is there something that makes it not very good for games?

This is the only magazine that actually gives away some impressive software each and every month. They gave away Poser three a while ago and the current issue gives away IntelliCAD 2000 which I also like to do modeling of spaceships and buildings in.
A CAD program for 3D GAMES? Yes, but that is just me.

It was actually in the May 2002 edition. This edition seemed to be lurking at my local bookstore. If you can't find it try gettting a back issue at:http://www.pcplus.co.uk/

What other "great" programs have they given away for free recently? Any I should be looking for on their site?

I used to love reading PCPlus; to me it was the best PC magazine in the UK bar none. What other "great" programs have they given away for free recently? Any I should be looking for on their site?

Milkshape will get you the most immediate game mileage. And at 20 dollars, you can't beat the investment.

I would like Milkshape slightly more if it was open source... but, their .ms3d file format is very simple and if you can get to that: I have had good luck with the Torque exporter... the exporter is good, if missing a few things. Which comes down to Milkshape missing a few things in a few cases... with some code anything is possible.-J

But I do love the community here. Very, very passionate and almost fanatical about this site (which is very, very impressive I must say.)
Has anyone found PcPlus to be worth it after looking at the site?
Also, I was wondering if there was any plans for a simple 3D modeler to be included in Torque itself.

I am not worried about the Torque engine as I would never, ever purchase it until there was a proven track record of performance. Even then I would never purchase it because if GarageGames does do well with this business model then guess what? So will other companies that would then decide to get involved. But I do love the community here. Your question about the 3d modeler is a good one, but I'm not sure that it's practical. I can see the benefits in allowing an in game mission/landscape editor to take up memory, but not a 3d modeller. I think that would just make the game executable too big to be worth it. Good idea though.

Before I forget, there is a proven track record of performance for the Torque engine. It's called Tribes 2.

I agree with you mike. Great point. But why would it take up to much space for the executable? Forgive me, but couldn't it simply be a tool?Stede

When I mean performance I mean actually making money of the product you make with Torque through this web site.

Ah I see. Maybe you should edit your first post to reflect that you are looking at it from the business aspect and not the "technical" aspect.

Blender was bandied about, but they went under (I think they may have released it as open source after they did, I kinda lost track of the Blender folks). Milkshape has great potential, but does cost 20 bucks and isn't open source.
There are things like Strata3d out there.
By and large, the professionals seem to be sticking to max, though, and that certainly ain't free.

People talked about it. I think they couldn't decide on a good one. Worldcraft was gonna be on the CD for maps, but a "good" and free 3d model editor is a hard thing to find.Blender was bandied about, but they went under (I think they may have released it as open source after they did, I kinda lost track of the Blender folks). I know how everyone gets and I really like this topic so...
PLEASE STRIKE MY PREVIOUS POST ABOUT PERFORMANCE FROM THE RECORD!
FOR THE RECORD:
EVERYONE HERE WILL MAKE $1000000 a day from the Torque engine without even trying.
Also, Jeff Tunnel for President...
sorry, strike that...
Jeff Tunnel for Pope!

Just when I thought you could hold a mature conversation with some good ideas, you go and throw us all for a loop.
You really need to:
a) grow up
b) relax
c) seek therapy
d) go away
Why do I even bother! *rolls eyes*
PS - I meant change your last post, not your first. My mistake.

What the hell are you on about? I said to change your post to explain that you're talking about the performance of the business model, not the performance of the game engine.Just when I thought you could hold a mature conversation with some good ideas, you go and throw us all for a loop.

As far as I can see, to make it an in-game tool, it would have to be compiled into the main game executable.
Unless you either create the tool as a mod I suppose, but I don't really know much of how that works.

By the way, if PcPlus could get a free copy of Cinema 4D 5 Pro for almost nothing couldn't Garage Games do that to? What about other older software like Poser and stuff?
Maybe a membership for like $50.00 a year could get you some older tools to work with?

They seem to be on version 7 now, but I like it when software companies post earlier versions of their stuff for people to use, gonna have to go to the book store and have a look.
