Maximum Torque Book, info??

by Britt Scott · in Torque Game Engine · 06/29/2007 (9:49 pm) · 6 replies

Has anyone heard any informations on what is going to be covered in, Maximum Torque: The Ultimate Guide to Game Scripting by Kenneth Finney? I was thinking about ordering it, but I didn't want to get it, if it wasn't going to be useful.

About the author

Attended Brown College in Mendota Heights, MN for Game Design and Development. Projects include the Mech Starter Kit and the Battle Frog. Currently working toward a game design career.

I too have been trying to find information on what is covered in this book. With it being only 250 pages, I'm not sure how much "meat and potatoes" it will have. It was scheduled to come out on June 30th on Amazon, but it's still not available yet. I don't want to pre-order it. I'd much rather see the book and leaf through it first, but like I said, it's not available.

Unfortunately we do not have any information to provide about this book.
We do not yet have enough information to be certain when or whether we
will be publishing this title. It will definitely not be published in
2007, but more information may be available later this year.

Although it is not yet possible to preorder it through us, it may be
possible to do so through Amazon. You may want to wait until that title
appears on our website, however. Amazon can process your preorder, but
they will not be able to fill your order until we have published the
book.

This is the email I received after contacting the possible publisher of the book. Take the information as is...

First of all, this book has nothing (directly) to do with GG. Ken Finney is the author, and he is not an employee.

Secondly, book publishers do this all the time. It's common practice that as soon as a book concept is floated by a publisher, they like to post it in their databases, and if you look carefully at places like Amazon, you'll see this happens quite often for many different book types and sources. For example, quite a few years ago Jeff T and Jay Moore came up with a book idea that can still be found on Amazon as "coming soon!" even though it's not actually being written at all.

If you want to complain about false promises--please talk to the publisher. I can however say that Ken has already written 2 outstanding books, and there is no indication whatsoever that this one won't be published.
