4 seconds away...

Question is about point 4 (Fee) of EULA for TGE 1.5.
It says:
(b) Licensee agrees to display a full screen, unmodified Torque Game Engine logo for no less than four full seconds in the start up sequence of any game created and released with the Engine.
Does it means that user will not be able to skip this logo all that 4 seconds? 8-0

Almost any game you play has at least one splash screen (sometimes several) and you can't always skip them. Plus 4 seconds' isn't that long.

You could always purchase the commercial version to change the requirements.

I'm not sure how a splash screen could "scare" someone... Actually, the first time I saw the Neversoft splash screen with the arrow going through the eyeball, I said gross... but didn't quite get scared. Now maybe if it was a Quintin Tarantino directed splash screen with vampires and truckers, then maybe. But the GG splash screen leaves a lot to be desired in the "scare" department.
But seriously....
I've never met a normal game player who got pissed off because a splash screen appeared before them while the game was loading. Now I did say normal... I have seen Pat Wilson fly off the handle and reach his hand into the computer monitor and rip the splash screen's spine right out of its body... but hey... its Pat Wilson.
And as David pointed out... you can upgrade to the commercial version if you really want to avoid the lawsuits that will be brought by kids who broke their monitors cause they were upset at the splash screen.

Informative thread btw. Remember, it's the "Made with Torque" splash screen that must be displayed, thus showing the world your game was built on Torque Tech, no the GG splash. You would need special permission to use a different splash screen showing the same concept, or get the Commercial license to do whatever you want.
I still believe it's good policy to mention the technology your game was built on, as I've seen other professional companies do so in the past. That's just my op though.

I havn't seen ANY game that don't let to SKIP splash skrin... May be in early nineteens... But time passes and people don't want to wait while splash goes away (espesially if its casual game as mine is). I have nothing against splash that appears while game is loading but wait 4 SECONDS every time game is loading - it's too much!

Most PC games do let you skip. But console titles love to let you watch the ip that they've licensed. It irritates me, but in reality...it doesn't matter.

Any way I'll wait for answer of my producer. If he'll say 'ok, Maltsev, 4 seconds it's nothing scary' - than I'll buy TGE with no mercy... but if no - YOU'LL BE SORRY!!! }:-EThanks for attention pals :)

so many commercial games include even 5 splash screens not all of them skippable on all games..
commonly loading times on all games are far more than 4 seconds..
Cheers

A few games require you to sit through the splash screens the first time you play it, but afterwards they allow click-through. Seems like a good compromise to me.

4 seconds isn't that bad, but a lot of games have a whole list of splash screens and it adds up. Personally, it does piss me off if I can't "click through" the splash screens at the start of a game. DVDs have it even worse though. Ever played a DVD that didn't allow you to skip through the previews? Gawd damn it hurts my brain when I have to wait through several minutes of ads before hitting "Play" so the kids can watch Cinderella.A few games require you to sit through the splash screens the first time you play it, but afterwards they allow click-through. I agree 4 seconds isn't hard to suffer through one time, but srsly, I don't buy fast hardware in order to wait every time I launch a game. The license should allow for click-through after the first time.

Yes--which is exactly the option we provide with the Commercial license.

It's like the t.v. commercial that pumps the concept of removing one olive from the jar as a brilliant money saving decision rather than a degradation of quality.
But I digress, 1) I'm a bitter person, 2) I'm not the author of the EULA ;p

Eh... never was a big fan of companies using technically minor features for a major upgrade enticement. Smells too much like an MBA decision...It's like the t.v. commercial that pumps the concept of removing one olive from the jar as a brilliant money saving decision rather than a degradation of quality.
