Gimp and 2D art

Hey,
I've been playing around with Gimp inorder to draw some background artwork; not an artist(evil) grin, but when I import the artwork into TGB it display the background and not as a transparent. I've tried creating small files with transparent and then use layers. Also, have tried to figure out the blending, but with no lucky. Any suggestions, would be most helpful regarding how one would go about saving the artwork into a compatible transparent for TGB use.

Thanks,

JPG's do not store alpha information. Use PNG's and an alpha channel.
