So when does TorqueX get 3D?? :)

by Andrew M. · in Torque X 2D · 05/30/2007 (10:15 pm) · 42 replies

C'mon guys -- make it happen now. do it !! :)

I know its in the works, just curious if theres any update you could give us all on how its coming along and when we might be able to try it out?

Also, when the final release of TorqueX is released -- those who own TGB do not have to pay for TXE, correct? I seem to remember reading this. I hope thats the case.

thx

Well it wouldn't take that long to do like a quick weekly update, like saying here's what's changed, here's what's coming up.

either way, it'd make for a cool game in a day entry.

Just a picture and a sentence or two saying 'see, aint it cool' would do for me.

See, aint it cool? ;)

P.S. I think Adam is revving up for a big plan about general progress, so keep an eye out for that.

@Thomas Buscaglia

So, um, how does one get in on a closed beta for this? :P

Seriously, that's awesome!!! I can't wait.

I think I have Josh's cell around here somewhere.. might have to dig that out and start having my 8 year old call him every 30 minutes.

@Anton & Matias - I just had you guys added to the closed beta. Matias actually emailed me about it a while ago, but the dude who normally does it wasn't around and I forgot the next day... this just reminded me. >_<

Thomas -
Just a quick question - is this the same version (TGBX) as I currently own?
I had to uninstall the one that I had, and reinstall this one (and I have installed the keys from my TGB direcotry) is that correct?

This beta is not the 3d TGBX right?

oh and thanks!

(EDIT: post above originally asked if I was playing jokes on the community...)

No way! I was playing jokes on James (James Wiley... he gets all the fallback GG email). I gave him the thumbs-up and as far as I know he's added everyone that's emailed him.

From GoogleTalk:
Quote:
Thomas:
you get any more emails?

James:
yeah

Thomas:
whats the total?

James:
2 more, 4 total

Thomas:
:D

James:
NAME: Sean T. Boyette

Is this real?

Thomas:
wait, 2 more makes 6 doesnt it?

James:
oh yeah,
i'm tired

Thomas:
ooh yea, give him access

He just left for the day, but I'm pretty sure he added you. So not a cruel joke, more of an impromptu limited-time floodgate release. We'll stop letting ppl in if he gets swarmed, but for now I can't hurt to open up to more people.

It is kinda funny, though, that we haven't put up a new build in a couple weeks (still 1.0 stuff). But being in the closed beta group most definitely means that you'll be the first ones to get to mess with the 3D stuff when we have something worth testsing.

Happy Monday, guys. ;)

Yea, what's up there now is the same as the open beta, except with TX source.

Wow, can't wait to mess around with the 3D stuff when it comes out.

When it does will it still be able to deploy to 360s?

Good question Sam M. My guess is it will, in most cases. Which brings up a question of my own. Do we have to worry about our computers being more powerful then the 360's and hence "out-growing" the console they are building for? It'd be a shame to work on a "360" game for a year, and then have your 360 kick the bucket the minute you load up..

Don't worry, guys, we've been testing it on the XBox frequently. It runs better than on my work PC (that's not a huge boast, what with my x300).

As a matter of fact, developing on a PC that's under-specced has actually benefitted TX quite a bit in terms of catching performance hangups earlier than we normally would.

::HEAD EXPLODES AT PICTURES::

Just one quick little question. Do 3d objects support components like 2d objects? If not are there plans for this later on?

The 3D side of Torque X is even more componentized than the 2D. To give you an idea of what I mean, there is no T3DSceneObject. Literally everything is a component (shapes, rendering, mounting, rigid collision, physics, animation, etc).
