So when does TorqueX get 3D?? :)
by Andrew M. · in Torque X 2D · 05/30/2007 (10:15 pm) · 42 replies
C'mon guys -- make it happen now. do it !! :)
I know its in the works, just curious if theres any update you could give us all on how its coming along and when we might be able to try it out?
Also, when the final release of TorqueX is released -- those who own TGB do not have to pay for TXE, correct? I seem to remember reading this. I hope thats the case.
thx

Considering they are waiting (still) on Microsoft to get their shiznit together so they can release the 2D parts, I'd say don't count on 3D in the near future. They are working on 3D and we've seen screenies in these forums a time or two which show that, but it's a heavy process and it will take some time to implement. Maybe by the time MS gets their heads out of their arses, GG will already have 3D done ;)

We are definitely making progress on the 3D stuff. I'd like to update everyone on what that progress is, but I don't want to make any promises as to when that will be. I personally am in favor of keeping you guys in the loop, but we won't be talking release dates or planned features. Been burned by that too many times in the past.

We promise to be good this time.

I know, I know, everyone is busy. But I just got of say that I've never felt so much out of the loop then I have lately and it's kind of bumming me out.
I guess it is what it is.

I'd just be happy to hear more from the GG people. The .Plans as of late have been chalk full of pretty mundane things.I know, I know, everyone is busy. But I just got of say that I've never felt so much out of the loop then I have lately and it's kind of bumming me out.
I guess it is what it is.

GG have stated that due to being flamed for not released products on time or with the announced features that they will no longer reveal this information (it was a while back now, I can't find the link though :( ).

I have an idea. Lets come up with a deadline and feature list that we'll pretend they said and then bitch when they miss that deadline and when features aren't in the actual version based on our made up feature list. That way, they'll HAVE to tell us what's up to stop rumors from spreading. Anton, get on that list! ;)

I already start waiting for post-1.0 release..
The features I really want are network, 3d, gui editor, and etc..
who know when that will be.. :(
Don't get me wrong. I think TorqueX will absolutely awesome but I'm little tired of waiting..

Been waiting too long for 1.0 release, but from what I hear 1.0 will not be much different from what we already have other than the pro license..I already start waiting for post-1.0 release..

I'm gonna give this a try cause I'm stupid and I don't learn from my mistakes... we're shooting for the 15th for 1.0. There's some stuff that has to happen on the web side related to the Creator's Club bundle deal.
1.0 is very similar to the last closed beta. Just bug fixes and tweaks, mostly. 3D is coming along very well. We finished most of the big engine-side stuff and are quickly grinding through an FPS starter example.
Adam and I were talking a while back about possibly being completely transparent with the dev process so you guys can see exactly what we're working on as a sort of experiment with the community. It wouldn't be anything along the lines of read-only repo access or a copy of our list of future tasks, but more like 4-8 times a month we each post about exactly what we're working on at the time with screens, code samples, research, and possibly videos to keep everyone fully in the loop. As long as it didn't cut into our dev time, I think it might be cool to see how it worked out. Even if it flops and people freak out it might be cool as just a social experiment... or at least entertaining.
What would you guys think about something like that?

I like the idea of getting periodic updates and having somekind of a "roadmap" of what's coming in the next release. At least for me the biggest problem hasn't been the delay of 1.0, but the uncertainty of what's coming and when. There's always something you can do with your project, but having more info helps you setting the priorities (i.e. not working on something that'll change next week).
Cheers,
Matias

It is a wonderful idea. It's better to wait knowing what to expect rather than in total darkness. It will probably not help make the developement faster but you will get valuable feedbacks along the way. And in the end both parties benefit. I'm all for it as long as, like you said, it's not a big burden on you.

I agree, it sounds really good than just sitting around with no updates for weeks. Anybody who does complain when deadlines aren't met really should just be ignored and are the vast minority.

Personally, I'd love that kind of openess in the development, but I'd rather have progress than knowledge.

Actually I don't really think it's a good idea. It _will_ take away dev time to make plans and updates twice a week (8 times/month). I would say just do what you have been doing and keep a closed beta updated like one time/week and let the community figure shiz out instead of bugging you guys non-stop about it.Personally, I'd love that kind of openess in the development, but I'd rather have progress than knowledge.
