Vista says no

Hey guys,

Having some freaky problems with Vista running a GeForce5900 gfx card on some of our games (3 different Torque-based titles!).

First up, the rendering...

The game renders fine in windowed mode, then if I switch to fullscreen it flickers HORRIBLY.

Second, some kind of timing problem...

The game skips time. In fact, all three of our games skip time on Vista. Every two seconds a second gets skipped by the server. I know it's on the server because we have a tick counter on there that skips, too... it's very odd.

Has anyone got any ideas on this? I'm losin' me marbles!!

Thanks,
Jeff.

*bump* ... it sure is quiet out here!

Has anyone else tested with Vista?

About the flickering... are you using that Vista skin? Turn it off! Nothing but trouble. I witched back to classic skin and I'm having a lot less problems.

Thanks, Ward.

I've certainly switched it off now :)

Still flickers ... Vista still sucks!!!!

Ok... getting a little closer now...

The game is defaulting to render in D3D (even though we have all the prefs set up to aim for OpenGL and 'prefer' OpenGL) ... which doesn't work.

Rendering in D3D on Vista causes the UI to flicker like a crazy thing.

Now we're just trying to figure out why it's defaulting to D3D and once we've finished that everything will be good again!!

So, there you go. Don't try and use D3D rendering in Vista because bad things happen.

So, no TGEA in Vista?

I've been developing our TGEA title in Vista since its release. I run the glass interface with sidebar and have no problems running TGEA windowed or fullscreen.

It's on a Dell XPS laptop with a GeForce Go 7900 GTX running driver version 101.41 if that helps...!

Interesting, so it's only TGE DirectX support that has issues?

It certainly seems like it, yeah. I haven't seen any problems in TGEA. Just TGE.

The awesome dudes at GG rebuilt the DirectX code for TGEA (to support shaders etc.), so it shouldn't be an issue. Unfortunately, though, the D3D rendering in TGE remains to be terrible.

Well, on a positive note, at least OpenGL works with TGE so it's not a show stopper.

This is true :)

Once I figure out why it's defaulting to D3D, we're all Vista compatible wooooot! lol
