Face Extrude Plugin

by Jaimi McEntire · in Constructor · 05/11/2007 (6:52 am) · 59 replies

OK, I've got a working version of the face extrude plugin running. Right now, the new (extruded) brush has sides that are perpendicular to the selected face (you can skew it by modifying the normal).
I was thinking about adding an option to create the sides of the new brush so they conform to the planes of the touching faces. Does this interest anyone?

If anyone wants to try it, post a message here, and I'll email you a test version.

Tried the extrude plugin.
Was able to extrude faces. Tried it on the sphere shape and other awkwardly angled faces. Seemed to work fine. I havent exported anything yet though.

I also messed about with the house plugin. I was able to make the house shell but it didnt seem to create the inside hollow
I just finished a house project and this would of helped tremendously.

Keep it up.

Hi Barry -

The house plugin isn't done yet, it just creates the shape right now. Soon though, I will have it where it will create the outside walls, the roof (with overhang) etc. Glad to here the Extrude plugin is working right. Next on the list is a "bevel". The house plugin will be done as time permits. Thanks again for checking it out for me!

@Jaimi:
Would you mind post this as a resource or it will be included as a plugin for the next release?

Well Jaimi this is a great tool and it now seems to work on everything too! excellent work!

I do wish you could click and drag object handles, but the length xyz works just as well:)

I have a request for something in the way of a plugin that would let me know when my brush size is over the maximum size. I think that would be useful nowadays as ingame architecture gets bigger and bigger.

@Steven - I'll probably post it on my website as soon as I have it up and running. I have some more plugins in process, so it may be a week or so.

Hey Jaimi...

Have you thought about getting in touch with GG about this plugin. Its really that useful that it should be standard.

Or have you got other plans for it?

@Joz - I've sent it, have fun!

@Doppleganger - I get an error sending to your email in your profile: "PERM_FAILURE: SMTP Error (state 13): 501 #5.1.1 bad address resumes@doppleganger.com"

If you have an updated email, let me know.

@Barry - We have a ton of old game models, and I was toying with putting them for sale as .DTS models for torque (they're in 3dsmax format). I was thinking that these could be a "free draw" to my site, that maybe someone could come for some free plugins, and they might want to browse the store and get a model. Who knows? I may just end up giving it all to GG if they want.

@Adam - I think it works fine. If you want to try it let me know.

@Todd - Sent!

I've decided to add some more features to it, but it'll be this weekend before I can get to it. (I'm going to try to add handles to manipulate it in the view, like the arch plugin)
