Should I get Torsion?

by Ian (Fluxtah) Warwick · in Torque Game Engine Advanced · 05/02/2007 (6:45 am) · 10 replies

Hi, new guy here, proud owner of TGEA.

I was wondering if anyone could give me their opinion on Torsion, it looks very good, and very low priced.

I guess there are no problems using it for TGEA? I could really do with an IDE as I dont really care much for notepad, and creating reams of code in notepad is not a good strategy.

best regards

Try the demo! It's free for a while.

Well, my first piece of advice is to stop using notepad immediately. Notepad has a tendency to add hidden garbage to files that completely and utterly breaks the script for compiling.

As for Torsion its well worth it. I used to use Codeweaver and then switched to Torsion roughly 4 months before it shipped and haven't looked back. Codeweaver is still a good choice too if you want something free, and there always Tribal. All three will work just fine for TGEA.

I'm a huge fan of Torsion. If you are familiar and like working in a Visual Studio style development and debugging environment then Torsion will be instantly intuitive for you. It's the best debugger for TorqueScript that I've seen.

Have to agree, at $40 it's really a no brainer. Precompiling of scripts to quickly catch syntax errors and the ability to debug scripts make it an invaluable tool.

I agree. Torsion is a must have. If you are familiar with Visual Studio you will get up to speed very quickly.

Stupid Question. Can we use torsion to compile TGEA game engine?

@Joseph
Torsion is for torque script. You compile the engine with MSVC++.
