So, how soon is the platformer starter kit going to be released? I check that page every day! Is it going to be out that soon, or do I have so time to hibernate?

Does this mean that the non beta release will have 3d stuff, or is still only 2d?

I'm confused about the Torque X comes out statement.Does this mean that the non beta release will have 3d stuff, or is still only 2d?

At last I heard, 3D was not planned for the 1.0 release, hence my comment. They are working on 3D, it's just not ready to be added in to the first version (or so we're told).

Whooohoo - cannot wait for both 1.0 and the Platformer kit! I too, will check daily!

Jonathon is right. Torque X 1.0 will not include the 3D portion of the engine. This is simply because it's not where we want it to be it and we want to get 1.0 out as soon as possible. There is a lot of post-1.0 stuff already done and there's more to come. Most of the 2D enhancements are done for post-1.0 (at least for now) and our efforts are almost entirely focussed on finishing up the core 3D stuff. We *might* have a beta build with some basic 3D as soon as 2-3 months from now, but that also depends on how things pan out with dev and how the 1.0 release goes. After 1.0 is released it might be best for us to release the updated 2D stuff sooner and if the 3D stuff isn't ready it won't be in that build either. There's still a lot of work to do. Either way, future releases shouldn't be this delayed (fingers crossed) because they won't be quite as dependant on outside forces.

Just a friendly tip Thomas, but as bitchy as this community (all of GG, not TX specifically) is about deadlines and dates "promised" I would recommend not even throwing out there 'the next few months' or anything specific ever. Too many people have nothing better to do than take your dev time away from you to make you answer posts stating "are we there yet?".

I know I shouldn't even reply, but it's hard because I know there are non-whiners that would appreciate the head's-up. I've been in MMO communities where just a little feedback from the developers went a long way to build trust with the community (specifically, me :). I've definitely learned to pepper my statements with conditionals because some people love to come back and tell you exactly what you said six months ago. It's a special case with Torque X, though, because we originally wanted to kick 1.0 out the door by December 11th, so I'm sure you can imagine that we all want to release it as soon as we can.
