How much does it cost to license a game for the major consoles? If anyone has the current cost/estimates or where to find it online please let me know.

Thanks in Advance, Jeff

Tens of thousands and higher depending on the console and the generation and tools used, plus you have to have a proven track record to get a license. Getting a release slot is not guaranteed even if you get a license.

Personally, my theory is that if I can show some success on the PC side of life, negotiating console stuff will be not too hard.

That's part of the proven track record...

You should email GG directly with this question.

Games aren't just released randomly for consoles Jeff, I think that's what he means.

If you check the schedule for the back end of this year for the 360 you'll see that the major games are spread out at roughly one a month, so that you have say, Assassins creed one month, GTA4 the next, Halo 3 the next etc.

I'm not sure if it's the same story for non-major releases, but certainly for major releases they seem to like to maintain a month spacing.

Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo controls what games are released and which are not. Just buying a license doesnt give you a release slot for your game.

Which is why we (GG) commonly do not offer licenses for the console(s) without confirmation of a current, or pending approval, console release slot--saves you money, since you are going to develop the game using the engine on PC anyway, and then deploy to the console with the platform license you purchase.

Thanks for all the info guys/gals, I think I've found the best solution for our project which is to just release for Mac/Windows. We're planning to distribute the game over the internet anyways so likely consoles would not be such as need for attracting new players.
