early concepts of realm wars characters

Here is the first drawing of a Realm Wars human knight. If people here like the design, I'll do a series of helmets and additional views. plus finish up the drawing with color.
Second is a loose concept of the Rakasta race, many people here should be familier with it. Its the evolution of feline to man, simular too monkey to man.

If people like the rakasta, I have some samurai/knight sketches made up also.

the knight look really good, the cat man (rakasta?) looks pretty nice as well, it would be easier to decide if we could see the rakasta with some armour e.t.c on.

They are both very nice concepts, only on the knight his arms look a little small for the rest of his body. And the elbows also are kinda odd to me too, maybe with bigger arms it will look better. Good job otherwise.

thanks for the nice comments. I can see the problems with the arms now too Phillip :( I posted this picture on the concept design forum just to pick stuff like that out before I posted here. Unfortunately noone replied to my post, so I figuired everything was fine. I'm sure I can adjust the arms and elbows around before I color the picture, if it is indeed useable.

You got some overall anatomy problems, proportions are way of. I liked the shading and the amount of detail you put in to it though.

I like what you did i realy do but if you would pay some more attention to the proportions it could be so much better. You did a great job, i like it.

Erik, you do have some anatomy problems, but nothing that can't be fixed with the right tuition. I'm currently reading the Burne Hogarth books, I can't recommend them enough. I borrowed Dynamic Anatomy from the library and ended up buying them all! :) You'll be amazed how much you'll learn if you read these books. I always stupidly assumed that art and drawing was mostly a natural ability, how wrong I was, knowledge of anatomy and technique can improve things 100%.

Owen: thanks for the encouragement, the rakasta needs a lot of work yet, plus I'm trying to think up a heritage and culture for these beasts (I'm mainly thinking evil)
Phillip: my anatomy is awefull...
Decoy: Great reply Decoy, I did start over on the drawing, the armor will be much the same though, with no big features, and "good" (not evil) shapes.
John: thanks for the book suggestions, I was slowly starting to look into a good book or two. I've been scouring online resources, I'm sure I'll find something.

thanks for the suggestions, most responce I ever recieved, so I appreciate it and will try again-erik

I really liek the concept drawing of the knight, especially his arms and armour. I do have a little nit-pick regarding his breastplate.

There seems to be a concavity over his abdomen (between the two ridges). A thrust hitting him between the ridges (even if the hit was not dead on) would be drawn in and would very likely pierce the armour. The purpose of ridges on armour was to help deflect blows (especially those made at an angle).

Ideally, the armour should come to a "peak" in the centre, so a blow landing off centre would be deflected to the side. Anyway, it's a minor point as I'm pretty sure the Realm Wars combat engine won't simulate the physical interaction between arms and armour.
