Hi,
Can anyone tell me how wide 1 lane of a street in a major city like new york is?
Mi first gues was 3 meters but this looks to small ingame.
In gta 3 you can easly fit 2 cars on 1 lane so they used more then 3 meters (5 or 6??).
Thx.

You could just take a tape measure out on the street... just don't get run over.

"Former 9 foot wide traffic lanes are now either 12 or 14 feet wide. Curb radii grew from 5 feet to 40 feet or more."
Hope it helps.
*edit* - also make sure you have it set to scale if you're using the TGE. 1 = 1.125 inch (or unit in WorldCraft). So a 14ft lane wouldn't be 168in, it'd be 189in when you build it in WC.

I found a few resources, but it seems there's not a hard set regulation. Most say around 24ft wide for a roadway. Couldn't find anything from the NYCDOT. I found reference from a UW Professor on Seattle's streets:"Former 9 foot wide traffic lanes are now either 12 or 14 feet wide. Curb radii grew from 5 feet to 40 feet or more."
Hope it helps.

Way to be on top of it Tyler. Except I was hoping to hear some New Yorker regale us with tales of a busy street and a tape measure.
If you live in New York, it isn't too late - you can still offer the definitive answer with nothing more than a tape measure and some guts... :D

If mi scale in Quark is set to 32, then 32 units = 1 meter right? This is the case in other engines i worked with but everything turns out to small in Torque.
I don't understand Tyler because it's in foot.
The only thing i need to know is how many Quark unit's = 1 meter ingame if mi scale is set to 32.
Thx.

you don't set the scale in Quark.. you set the grid, the scale of things stays the same. 32 just means the grid lines are 32 units from eachother. But yeh.. I think 32 is aprox one meter, don't know for sure tough..

The QuArK map scale is set in the "geometry_scale" parameter in the worldspawn entity and used by map2dif during the compile process to scale the brushes and positions of brushes. At a geometry_scale of 32.0, 1 grid unit in QuArK is approximately 1 inch.

oops... yes offcourse... I just always work with 32, never even wonder why its 32 ;)

if you suggest that a normal car is about 2 meters broad you got enough space with 4 to 5 meters. I wouldn't make them wider, 'cause otherwise 2 cars can drive on one lane!
I don't know if this is correct, so tell me if I'm wrong, but that's how I would do it!
