XNA CONTEST project: Looking for Torque programmer

by Dan Rutkowski · in Jobs · 04/02/2007 (5:45 pm) · 1 replies

The Microsoft XNA Dream it, Build it, Play it contest began about a month ago and we are currently looking for a skilled individual with experience in Torque Game Engine (the 2D engine).

The team includes two artists and one programmer at the moment. The story and gameplay features have already been created, and at the moment the two artists/designers are producing all art assets for the game. To keep the project within the realm of possible, the game is 2 dimensional, 3/4 view top-down action that uses arcade-style gameplay. We are not interested in creating an overly-ambitious game that will never see the light of day, but instead are focused on producing a fun, beautiful, polished, real product.

We are really looking for an individual skilled enough in programming to bring a relatively simple concept to life. The project's due-date is July 2nd, 2007. That means, from the time of this posting, there is exactly 3 months to produce a small game, comparable to something found on XBOX Live Arcade. For complete details about the contest itself, visit www.dreambuildplay.com .

The top prize is U.S.D. $10,000 and an opportunity to develop an actual, marketable XBOX Live arcade game. In addition, the top 20 teams are rumored to be invited to a Microsoft Developer's contest in Seattle sometime this fall, presumably able to show their games to prospective publishers.

The name of the game is "Catalyst" and I am absolutely positive that we can win this one. The art direction in the game is already top-notch and innovative, and if we can simply attract a talented, dependable programmer there is no doubt we will create an incredible game.

For further details, please post on this thread. Include information about yourself: skills, knowledge of Torque, what you are and are not capable of, time-schedule, etc. I'd be happy to divulge info on the game to interested candidates who meet what we're looking for. Please bare in mind that this has a very short turn-over time, and if you do not feel confident that you can complete this on time, please avoid sending info. We are a very committed team that will uphold our end of the bargain, and need someone who can do the same. The winnings from the game will be evenly distributed between team members, and each will receive due credit for their contribution. Incurred expenses (programs and licenses) will be deducted from the winnings first and foremost and reimbursed to the individuals purchasing said programs/license. All information/imagery received once joining the team is considered copyrighted material and is confidential. This includes art assets, story and gameplay details, and any other proprietary property created by Daniel Rutkowski, Joshua Talsky or David Rocamora.

Our design group has been termed "Lava Bead Studios," hopefully one day "Lava Bead Studios Ltd." and we look forward to seeing the talent out there. Thanks,

-Dan Rutkowski - Lead Designer

I'd be interested in looking into this more. My company is putting out a couple games to this contest already, but are always looking for fresh ideas to help out with. Shoot me an email at jonathon@last-straw-games.com
