Over flow error?

When i try and export to DTS in blender, i seem to get this error:
overflowerror: signed short integer is greater than maximum
it only seems to happen with large models.
can someone please help me?

Ummm, I was just wondering... is there any way I can possibly get around this problem WITHOUT reducing the number of polygons? Im guessing it would be possible somehow, but what i would like to know is how difficult it would be.

Thank you for your quick reply. If it requires "tweaking" then its probably gonna be beyond my ability XD, but thank you for giving me an idea of why this happens and what I would have to do.
