Problems exporting milkshape materials
by Michael Hotchkiss · in Artist Corner · 03/26/2007 (2:51 pm) · 31 replies
I downloaded a cobra helicopter in 3ds format and import it to milkshape and everything seems fine. It uses milkshapes materials instead of a bitmap and when I try to export I check the export materials box, but when I open it in showtool it stays gray. I've checked the materials list in showtool and it has the right material names. I don't have any experience with 3d modeling so I have no idea what i need to do to fix this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Ok I have plus vs 2.6.1 but have been using torque game engine(DTS) exporter just because its easier.

Sweet, it works, but I can't figure out where to set the bounding box. Thanks for all the help.

Cool. What do you mean about the bounds?

Well I can't seem to figure out how to set the bounding box, so I can run through the model when placed in the game. When I click on "create bounds" in the exporter nothing happens.

Sorry just read my post and it's not as clear as I'd like. In the game I can run right through the model. I need to figure out the exporter so I can set the bounding box so I can't walk through.

Read about collision-1 in my big post above. That's what you need, not bounds.

Ahhh... cool.

Ok so in the exporter I was using before all I had to do was check a box to "create a bounding box" so I'm having hard time figuring out the collision mesh. Do I have to define something in script?

Then you can work on making a more sophisticated collision mesh. Just be sure its convex.

Just rename your bounding box group to collision-1, and voila, your object will collide. Then you can work on making a more sophisticated collision mesh. Just be sure its convex.

Sweet!!!!!!! Now I'm gonna have fun making collision boxes for everything lol. Thank Lee :D
