Aside from that, Vista is awesome, developing for the .net 3 framework is sweet and Vista is easy on the eyes -- but until it has a little more support, I would say give it a month or two more -- some would say wait until its first Service Pack -- which is rumored to be later this year (www.winsupersite.com).

If you are buying it for your dev machine....WAIT! TGEA/TGE has been ok for me, but my supporting apps have been a pain. Heck, ShowTool doesn't even load in Vista. Now you can try to do what I did and load Virtual PC 2007 and load a XP, then load your supporting apps there...but that will suck...even if you have 2 or more gigs of ram. So far I havent had any major problems that keep me from doing my work. There was a slight learning curve but now that I am used to it, I cant go back to using XP.
Actually the reason I got a Macbook (besides the sexy looks) is because I figured if I have to get used to a new OS I might as well give OSX a try. But there are just too many reasons why I need to use windows and Vista works best for me. Dont let anyone tell you that its just a GUI upgrade. Shadow copies, full system backup are just two good reason to switch. The new interface is more efficient (after you get over the learning curve). Better use of system resources. Most incompatibility issues can be solved by turning off UAC. Even though its a big no no, you currently dont have it in XP so what have you got to loose by turning it off. If you need me to go into more detail I can, but so far it has been a sweet ride for me.

I have been using Vista since day one first on an Asus W3J laptop and now on a 15" Mac Book pro. TSE, TGE and Show tool pro work fine. Visual studio 2005 requires a service pack but also works fine. Adobe CS 2 works fine. 3D Studio Max 8 works but windows will automatically disable Aero when you start 3DS Max and then re-enables when you close it.So far I havent had any major problems that keep me from doing my work. @Afrim - Wow...you turned off the "Cancel or Allow" guy. See, I figured I'd go back to XP (which I did - and hate it) before I did that because everyone made it seem like your eyes would fall out if you did...but you seem to be ok :) I am a little curious as to how you got The Show Tool to start in Vista. It would start for me, but it would stay in the task bar....it never displayed - Was that just a matter of you turning off the UAC?

I installed Show Tool Pro last night and it just worked for me of the batt. Probably because I had UAC already turned off. When you turn off UAC you make everything run in admin mode (assuming that you are an admin user of your machine) Alternatively you can selectively run programs in admin mode by right clicking on the shortcut of the problem program and choosing properties. Make it run with admin privilidges and turn on compatibility mode.

UAC sounds like a real problem to me, as most people won't even know about it being there and get in the way of a lot of things working.

I reckon Vista is Windows Me part Deux!UAC sounds like a real problem to me, as most people won't even know about it being there and get in the way of a lot of things working.

Had Vista been Windows ME part Deux, my computer would have crashed by the time I finished writing this po

UAC is what every other operating system has. The only difference here is that windows applications werent written with UAC in mind and therefore we have these minor issues. These issues will go away once software is written with vista in mind.Had Vista been Windows ME part Deux, my computer would have crashed by the time I finished writing this po

And with the unfinished post, we can assume that Afrim's machine has crashed. But all joking aside, I have to agree with what everyone has said about waiting to upgrade to Vista. Imho, it isn't ready for production use until more software has been written with it in mind like stated above.

Torque Owner DodongoXP
i have the ultimate edition.. and i must say im far from impressed .. it only brings problems ,restrictions, anoyances and frustration to your life.. too many things are changed or more complicated than before and having a nice black desktop and fancy graphics at the cost of more complicated and restrictive use its not worth it ..
wait a service pack or something comes out because some aspects of the vista os seems like incomplete or just buggy
worst spent money for the moment...
win xp is the way to go for the moment..
cheers
