How to make $ with your game!

by Michael Nol · in General Discussion · 06/24/2002 (11:04 pm) · 17 replies

Hi
My web site is setting up a small service that lets game makers send their game to us. We don't buy it!
Just follow these steps:
(1) Goto to Michael Studios Game Submit page.
(2)Fill in the details.
(3)Each person who uses this service will get a customised page for thier game.

Is this to good to be true?
No, this true!
No set-up fees!
We only charge 5% each sale!
Plus, we do deals with different types of games (i.e. 3rd person games)!

Hows that for a deal!

Small thing this service is not open yet but if you want to submit your game post a reply saying submit my game! then i'll see it and send you an e-mail

What law firm is handling your contracts?
Do you have a sample distribution contract we can view?
Can you handle 100+ MB downloads off your Geocities site?
Does your site have a monthly transfer limit that would hinder it's availability?
Will you handle Credit Card processing?
If Yes will you handle Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express?
Will you handle PayPal? C2IT?
CD on Demand?
Adult Titles?
Will I be able to view sales information in realtime?

You realize that GarageGames is a game publisher? It seems like a tad poor form to advertise a competing service on their forums.

yeah! advertise somewhere else!

the fact that he advertises here doesn't bother me at all...what bothers me is the way he does all this. I mean...its obvious he didn't think this trough.
First he comes here promoting his website/service.. but forgets to leave an URL, so we can go check it out. The URL in his profile seems to be broken and refers to a geocities website. How can you even consider geoshitties as a host for an ecommerce site? How will you do the ecommerce with no database/sever script support on the server?
The 5% you ask is also very unrealistic. Why? Well... you don't have your own server etc.. so I assume you cannot accept credit card payments yourself. What you are probably planning is letting the payments go trough some of the know ecommerce companies out there. However these creditcard service companies also charge (at least 5% if it isn't more)... where did you mention that?
Also why would we choose you over a site like garagegames where our game is viewed by hundreds of people a day. I can go on like this... but I wont... I suggest you think things over before rushing into it and posting stuff everywhere. Publicity is the last thing to do, not the first.

Please, Don't mock me!
Yes! I do except the payment through a ecommerce company but that is not why i posted this message!
I was offering my services to help people!
I can supply traffic and a place for any buyer to buy your game.
Q: Where is the prof?
A: None yet, we haven't yet built the web-site but we are nearly done!
Give me some mail!

Mr. Nol,

None of the information/comments/concerns/questions posted above by other GG Members and Associates are mocking you. They are very legitimate questions regarding the validity of the service you are offering.

I am sure you would not trust an unknown, unverified and unproven company to sell a product of yours that you spent numerous man hours developing, or would you?

Regards,
Ron

Ye Ron,
The reason i'm building this is because i've got a project and i need to get money to continue it so i've been working countless hours.

Mr. Nol your stuff seems kind of un-organized and messy in some parts. I don't know if you would get people to get these services when you are on a GeoCities webhost.

If you need money, there are better ways to get it. You are not going to make a lot of money selling games online. It would take a full-time amount of work to make you site and better than what someone could simply do themselves. The service you are offering is not unique and the margins are very thin. You can't make appreciable money of that, not in the short-term.

If you need money you would be better off finding a job, full or part time.

A small thing:
It's not just that i need money!
I want to help game makers!
And game makers can help me:
The games you post atract people to my web-site!

Please do it for the game...

You are aware that games made with the Torque Game Engine can only be distributed thru GarageGames?

So even if someone around here had a game and they wanted to use your service... it wouldn't be an option they could use.

We are pretty loose in allowing competitors to tell people about their products on our site, but I think I need to weigh in on this subject.

In the future we may set up an affiliate program which will allow this type of referral to our site and products. However, for right now, we do not see this as a viable way to pay for products.

Of course, you can make your own decisions, but it seems like the community has aleady voted with a shout of no confidence. I just wanted to say there are probably better ways to make money than this.
